Hello, all! :3
I had the weirdest urge lately to put on a DeviantART contest - it's a wonderful way to see a lot of different interpretations of a subject, and they're a hell of a lot of fun. So, here's the vitals!

THA STEPS AND RULEZ
1) Pick a song. Any song, any genre, any time period.
2) Listen to it. Let it inspire ye, scare ye, disgust ye, make ye laugh or cry.
3) Draw or write or make a sculpture, or piece of photography to represent it. Anything. It can be as realistic or abstract-crazy as you want, as long as it shows the essence of the song.
4) Show me or =HalibutWaffles! I recommend noting one of us with it.
5) Get it in by May 15th, let's say? That gives ye just over a month. :3

THA PRIZES:
Two First Prizes, one for Visual, one for Writing:
A three-month subscription!
Feature in and ' journals, both of yer winning entry and several pieces from yer gallery
Prominent feature of winning entry in the news article I'll make when the contest is over. Everyone's entry will be in it... but naturally the 1st prize shall be at the top.

Four runners-up, two for each category: (More if the entries are just TOO SPECTACULAR to choose between!)
Feature of winning entries in =SylverKitsune and =HalibutWaffles' journals
In the news article, of course! ALMOST right at the top, still pretty dang high up there.

The lovely and talented

will be judging this thang with me, and being generally awesome!

Judging will be out of a number of categories, which we'll rate out of 10:

Essence Communication - how well do you show the meaning of the song?
Originality - Is the art/writing fresh and your own?
Technical/Effort/Details - Is it a five-second scribble on some lined notebook paper, or did you pour some effort into it? Doesn't have to be professional grade by any means, but make it shine as much as possible.
Impact - Make us stop, drop our cookies on the floor and go "WOAH."
Investment - How well do you show how important this song is to you? Can we tell that you love it, that it spins you right 'round like a record, baby?!

I know it's hard to measure, but you can usually really tell where there's love and passion.

But seriously DO NOT let the categories scare you. We are not evil people judging you, we really want to see what ye have to show and I know we'll love it.

Even if you think you have zero chance of winning (WHICH IS NOT WHAT IS IMPORTANT HERE, AMIRITE?

), do something anyway! It's about the music and art, not being perfect!

Here are a couple examples of what we mean by "show us a song" - visually, at least:

If anyone else has some existing music-inspired work, show me! I'll put it up here too as more examples.

OH AND. I should probably say - there will be no bonus points from me for doing a Queen song (though if ye want to, COOL!), and I'm sure Hali is thinking the same way.

Do what YOU WANT TO DO, not what you think WE WANT TO SEE.

And above all, HAVE FREAKIN' FUN WITH IT!

And IF ANYONE WANTS TO HELP OUT, by donating subscriptions to winners or offering to feature, that'd be AWESOME! Let's blow it up, bay-beh!

And you should make a news article. And draw it out longer. And offer a 1-month sub prize and feature for 1st, features only for 2nd, and etc.
